Lake Louisa State Park

Well, I’m way behind in camping blog entries, and just now entering the January trip in March. But I’ll probably back date this to January so that it’ll show up in the right archive at the right.
We started the year with a short trip of about 35 miles to Lake Louisa State Park just outside of Clermont, Florida. This is a relatively new state park, and one that because of its closeness to the CurbCrusher domicile we had not visited. This was a Florida Pop-Up Camper trip also, so we had the chance to meet up with some folks that we had not seen for a couple of months. Also, CurbCrusher had his odometer turn another year on the trip, so it also provided an excuse for some birthday cake and ice cream.
Stuff to do - This park is a fairly relaxing park. There are a number of trails to hike, and a lake front day use area on Lake Louisa. Needless to say in January the day use area doesn’t get much use, but during the summer it provides a place to swim. On one of the other lakes kayaks and canoes are available, the weekend we were there was pretty windy, so we choose not to venture on the lake in a small self-powered water craft. The park is located fairly conveniently to the rear entrance to Disney, just south on US-27 for a bit and then east on US-192, so for those looking for a reasonably priced campground to visit the parks, this is a good candidate.
The campground - The campground itself is nice and open. The roads are all paved, and the campsites are gravel. The sites themselves are fairly large and have water and electric. Fifteen of the sixty sites are full-hookup, so look at the map when selecting a site and you might be able to save a trip to the dump station. There is little to no shade in this campground as the trees on and near the sites are not very tall. It also fairly open between the sites, so for the areas where the sites are closer together, there is not a lot of privacy, you get the feeling your in a campground and not the woods. Most of the sites are back-ins, but there are about 14 pull-thrus available. For those that have to use the dump station, it is a two sided station.
